Suspect in custody after ambush-style killing of 2 officers in Iowa

Scott Michael Greene

DES MOINES, Iowa, Nov. 2 (UPI) — Urbandale, Iowa, police spokesman Sgt. Chad Underwood said Scott Michael Greene, the man accused of killing two Des Moines-area police officers in ambush-style attacks, was arrested Wednesday morning.

Greene is suspected of killing the two officers in separate attacks before fleeing earlier Wednesday.

Shortly after 1 a.m., police responded to a report of gunfire in suburban Urbandale, Iowa, and found a police officer shot. The victim later died.

About 20 minutes later a Des Moines police officer was shot and killed, several blocks away. Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek said it appeared that both officers were shot while sitting in their cars.

Neither victim’s name was released; police said they are developing information on a suspect.

The second incident was the first time since 1977 a Des Moines police officer died in the line of duty.

Police said Greene was last seen driving at blue 2011 Ford F-150 with Iowa license plate 780YFR and a silver topper with a ladder rack.
