Update: Suspect in custody in West Valley City shooting that left 1 dead, 1 wounded

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 9, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect is in custody in the shooting death of one man and the wounding of another after shots rang out early Sunday morning in West Valley City.

Lt. Steve Katz of West Valley City PD told Gephardt Daily multiple police units were called to the scene at 4274 W. 4695 South about 2 a.m. with reports of shots fired.

According to a news release from WVCPD, when officers arrived, they found 35-year-old Jason Bull, of West Valley City, who had been shot to death, in the backyard of the residence.

According to the release, investigators interviewed several witnesses and have booked Marshall Herron, 36, into jail for a charge of murder.

A second male, 32 years old, was found wounded. He was rushed to an area hospital in fair condition and is expected to survive. His name has not been released.

Investigators with the West Valley City Major Crime Unit worked through the night and were continuing to investigate the crime scene on Sunday to gain a better understanding of what occurred.

  1. We have lost our city. Everyday now its a shooting death or a robbery. Long gone are the days of walking home after dark without a care in the world. So sad.
