OREM, Utah, Aug. 28, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol has identified the dump truck driver killed Monday on Interstate 15 between Orem and Lindon.

The victim was Allen P. Cox, 76, of Provo.

The accident happened at about 10:30 a.m. near milepost 273, Sgt. Todd Royce, Utah Highway Patrol, told Gephardt Daily. Cox was driving a red 1983 Ford dump truck.

“His front steering tire went out, and he went from right to left, then back right,” Royce said. “He struck the concrete wall and a structure,” the base of an overpass.

“He was dead on the scene.”

The dump truck bed separated from the frame. Debris was thrown into the southbound lane, and was struck by a car, Royce said. The car was damaged but no one was seriously injured.

I-15 northbound was closed for multiple hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
