OGDEN, Utah, June 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Ogden police are on the scene of a Wednesday afternoon shooting that left the victim in critical condition.

The shooting was reportedly at a residence on the 600 block of 23rd Street, Lt. Tim Scott, an investigator at the Ogden Police Department, told Gephardt Daily.

“Police responded here on a report of shots fired,” Scott said at the scene. “They found an adult male, mid 20s, victim, of a gunshot wound, or wounds, we’re not really saying exact numbers at this time.

“That victim has been transported in critical condition to an area hospital. As you can see here, we have a number of investigators here with major crimes and the homicide task force, from Ogden and from Weber County. There’s a countywide task force as well.”

Scott said officers had a suspect in mind.

“We are following up on leads. We do have active leads on our suspect,” Scott said at about 5:30 p.m. “We could consider outstanding at this time since he’s not in custody.”

One officer on the scene was picking through decorative gravel on the scene, seeking evidence in the shooting. Others were questioning anyone they thought might have witnessed anything or been familiar with the case or those involved.

“We are working leads diligently at this time to try to get him (the unnamed suspect) in custody as soon as possible, and get him off the streets,” Scott said. No further information would be released immediately, he added, because “we don’t want to tip our hands with what we know.”

Area drivers are asked to avoid the area, which is expected to remain an active crime scene well into the night.
