WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, July 8, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have released the name of a woman who died in Washington County after her car left the roadway and plummeted 300 feet to the bottom of a ravine.
The victim is 27-year-old Danyell Renee Simmons, of Washington County, according to the local sheriff’s office.
The accident is believed to have happened on Thursday, although the scene was discovered on Friday after a passerby on Kolob Terrace Road noticed damage to a road sign and saw the badly damaged Honda Civic far below.
Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office determined that the car had been there for less than 24 hours.
Simmons’ dog survived the accident and was taken to LaVerkin City Animal Shelter. Family members have made arrangements to pick up the animal, according to information from the sheriff’s office.
Officials were investigating at the scene to try to determine why Simmons’ car left the roadway.
