SPANISH FORK, Utah, May 15, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) – A woman driver and a male passenger are in critical condition after the Jeep she was driving rolled off a steep embankment in Spanish Fork Canyon, officials said.

Three children in the vehicle, ages 9, 11, and 14, were transported by ground ambulance to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release the 2011 Jeep Liberty was westbound on SR-6 in Spanish Fork Canyon Sunday afternoon. Other drivers had previously reported that the driver of the Jeep was driving recklessly, saying the vehicle had been drifting onto the shoulder and across the double yellow lines.

The news release said as the Jeep neared the Diamond Fork turnoff, the driver, Kimberly Worthen, 24, Layton, drifted off the right side of the pavement. She over-corrected to the left and lost control. The vehicle began to roll while it was still on the pavement, continued to roll off the left side of the roadway, and went about 300 feet down a steep embankment.

Worthen and the male passenger, Nick Swann, 36, Lehi, were transported by helicopter to UVRMC with critical injuries.

Traffic was restricted in both directions for about 30-45 minutes during clean-up, marking of evidence, and landing the medical helicopters. All lanes are now open.
