WOODLAND HILLS, Utah, April 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Woodland Hills Mayor Steve Lauritzen died Tuesday from cancer.

Lauritzen, 45, began treatment several years ago for the cancer, which began in his knee. He learned only last weekend that the cancer had spread.

Woodland Hills, in Utah County, became a city in 2000, and in 2010 had a population of 1,344. Lauritzen had served as the city’s mayor since 2010, and as a member of the City Council from 2006 to 2009.

Lauritzen was a U.S. Air Force veteran and the owner of several small businesses. He leaves behind a wife and five children.

“I love Woodland Hills!,” Lauritzen said in a brief biography on the city’s website. “I love the area, the people, and the opportunity to serve.”

A GoFundMe page has been established to assist the Lauritzen family.
