MILLCREEK, Utah, July 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police Department officials said they will continue the search Monday for a missing, endangered 79-year-old man last seen early Friday morning.

Leon Saunders, who goes by the name of Hy, was last seen leaving his house at 5:49 a.m. in the area of 2700 East and 4600 South.

He was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, but is fairly high functioning, a Unified Police Department Facebook post said. He has health issues related to his age.

On Saturday, more than 100 volunteers met at the Holladay United Church at 2631 E. Murray Holladay Road at 9:30 a.m. to search for Saunders.

Late Sunday afternoon, UPD tweeted volunteers are not needed as the search continues.

“UPD is suspending our request for volunteers for the search of Mr. Saunders for the remainder of today,” the tweet at 4 p.m. said. “Search and Rescue volunteers along with UPD officers are continuing the search this evening.”

UPD is also not asking for search volunteers Monday.

“Tomorrow, UPD detectives will be reviewing search notes and working on this missing and endangered case,” the tweet said.

Saunders is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue parka vest, blue sweater and black sweat pants. His shoes are sneakers.

Anyone who has seen this man or who knows where he might be is asked to call UPD at 801-743-7000.
