MIAMI, Jan. 27 (UPI) — A bird in the hand is worth three in the pants.

Customs officers at a Florida airport said they arrested a man found to be smuggling nine live birds in a fanny pack and the groin area of his pants.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Office of Field Operations officers at Miami International Airport searched a passenger who arrived from Havana, Cuba, Jan. 9 and they found he was hiding six live birds in his fanny pack and three additional live birds in “the groin area” of his pants.

The birds, which were individually packaged in ventilated tubes, were taken to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Miami Quarantine Station.

The man was arrested on federal smuggling charges.

“In addition to enforcing both immigration laws and customs laws at the border, CBP enforces laws for many agencies including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service,” Miami International Airport Port Director Christopher Maston.
