MADISON, Wis., Sept. 29 (UPI) — Police in Wisconsin said an intoxicated man who was knocked unconscious by a human assailant told police he believed he had been attacked by a hippopotamus.

Madison police said a witness told officers the 25-year-old man from Cambria had been attacked by another man about 11:30 p.m. Friday, and the assailant continued to punch and kick the victim after he fell to the ground.

The man was knocked unconscious and suffered broken teeth and a cut to his head.

Police said the victim was still drunk when he awoke and told officers he had been attacked by a hippopotamus.

“The injured man was quite intoxicated and didn’t know what had happened,” police spokesman Joel DeSpain told The Wisconsin State Journal.
