SALT LAKE CITY , UTAH – May 30, 2015 (Gephardt Daily)– An eight block stretch of 900 South will transform into a temporary festival Sunday for “Open Streets Salt Lake City” – a free event that will create room to walk, bike and enjoy city streets in a different way–free from vehicle traffic.

Salt Lake City’s second edition of Open Streets will be will held Sunday, May 31 on 900 South between 600 East and 200 West from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The street fair will extend from Liberty Park to Central Ninth with walking, bicycling and other community events scheduled throughout the corridor.

“We’re pleased to once again be hosting Open Streets here in Salt Lake City,” said Mayor Ralph Becker. “The event creates a unique opportunity for both our residents and great local businesses to engage each other during a day focused on active transportation that is fun, intimate and a celebration of many of the amenities and characteristics that make our City the best place in the country to live, work and play.”

Businesses remain a major focus of Open Streets Salt Lake City. Storefronts along the route will extend into the street during the event. Similar events held in other cities across the country functioned as a way for local businesses to connect with their customers, and also as a great opportunity for residents and visitors to explore business corridors in a less rushed, more engaged, manner.

This year, Salt Lake City will be highlighting the 9-Line connection, a major east-west corridor with several community nodes, public spaces, multi-modal trails and access to mass transit. A variety of activities will be provided including exercise and dance classes, bike vendors, skate rentals, sports, music performances, outdoor art projects, food trucks and family-friendly games.
