TAYLORSVILLE, UTAH – September 18, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The victim of a fatal one-car crash on Redwood Road has been identified.

Officials said Mary Clark, 70, may have had a medical issue before driving into the semaphore pole at 4200 S. Redwood Road yesterday at around 10:54 a.m. Unified Police spokesman Lt. Lex Bell said witnesses stated she was driving erratically and may have actually sped up before hitting the pole.

Unified and West Valley Fire had to cut the roof off the car and remove the driver’s side door to extract the driver, who was initially declared to be in critical condition.

Initial witness reports suggested the driver may have lost consciousness before colliding with the pole.

Officials found car parts approximately 50-60 feet from the Acura, and the two traffic lights attached to the pole came down as well.

A witness, who identified herself by her first name, Jane, said the accident left her shaken. “A few of us were crossing the road and she hit the light pole,” she said. “She just ran and hit the pole, it was loud, noisy, glass, everything falling, everything flying.”

Southbound Redwood Road at 4100 South reopened around 2:30 p.m.
