David Smith Hampton
April 28, 1997 â April 12, 2016
“Our wonderful son, brother, and friend was called home by our Heavenly Father as he was faithfully serving as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Taiwan Taichung Mission. His work in the mission field and upon this earth ended as the result of injuries sustained by being hit by a car after falling from his bicycle. David is survived by his parents Steve and Cyndi, his five sisters Sarah (Daniel Brown), Rebekah, Elizabeth, Hannah and Mary, and his best friend and brother, Joseph. He also leaves behind loving grandparents, a nephew, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
“David loved many things â puppies, mock trial, ballroom dance, debate, piano, plays, and being active. He loved to help other people: ‘It’s not about you,’ is how he signed off his mission letters. He was an exceptional example and leader to his friends. He was very funny and his sense of humor helped lift others. He never did things just because everyone else was doing it, but always questioned whether things were right. He was persuasive, whether it was getting ice cream for the whole gang, or protecting an underdog, he was there to argue for it. David wanted to be an attorney so he could help people.
“David had an outgoing, fun-loving passion for life that always brought a smile to those whose paths’ he crossed. He reveled in spending summers at Bear Lake with family and friends, and hiking in southern Utah. He loved his many close friends, and above all, his family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He spent his life doing what he loved, and died doing exactly what he wanted to be doing. We will miss him very much, and are grateful for the time we had with him. We look forward to meeting him again, because of our Savior who makes it possible for us to be together again as a family.
“I guess everyone needs to be reminded that they will not always be a blazing fire to people. Sometimes all we are is a firefly with our light blinking on and off. But we need to remember that even though fireflies are tiny they still stand out against the night …. Shine your light no matter how small it might be.” — Elder David Hampton
“Our family wishes to express loving gratitude to all of our dear friends and neighbors who have reached out with tenderness and concern during this time of sorrow. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the General Missionary Fund of the LDS Church or to the Memorial Scholarship Fund set up in David’s name at http://www.plumfund.com/memorial-fund/elder-david-hampton-scholarship?fb_ref=Default “
When you have true faith like this family, God is always in charge.
RIP, you are in the heaven for another higher mission.
