WEST JORDAN, Utah, March 13, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — West Jordan Police Officer James Michael Harvie was arrested by Saratoga Springs Police Department in connection with a domestic violence-related incident.
The charges stem from an August 2016 incident in Harvie’s Utah County home, according to charging documents. Harvie reportedly ordered a woman into a vehicle at gunpoint so they could drive to another location and confront another person they had been arguing about.
When the woman refused, Harvie took the safety off an AR-15 in order to seem more threatening, according to charging documents. The woman still refused.
On another day, Harvie reportedly acted like he was going to slap the woman’s face, but stopped just before touching her, according the report.
Harvie, born in 1987, was booked March 10 into the Utah County Jail, and has been charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; domestic violence in the presence of a child, a third-degree felony; and assault, a class B misdemeanor.
Harvie has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the criminal case and the results of a corresponding internal investigation, according to a news release issued by the West Jordan Police Department.
The West Jordan Police Department is cooperating with the Saratoga Springs Police Department in its investigation.
Harvie is being held on $250,000 cash-only bail. His case will be heard in 4th District Court.
