WEST JORDAN, Utah, July 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect was safely taken into custody following a stand-off of several hours, after he barricaded himself in a West Jordan residence and threatened to harm himself and others.
The incident began shortly before 3:20 p.m., and at a little after 7:30 p.m. West Jordan Police Department tweeted that the man was taken into custody with the assistance of police K-9s.
Police said the man, who has not yet been identified, was taken to jail and is facing several domestic violence-related charges.
WJPD initially tweeted that there is a “heavy officer presence in area of 4400 West and 6200 South. Officers are on scene dealing with a barricaded individual.”
West Jordan Sgt. J.C. Holt told Gephardt Daily police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence in Kearns in the early hours of Tuesday morning involving the same suspect.
On Tuesday afternoon, that subject went to the address in West Jordan, Holt said, which is a residence he is supposed to stay away from.
The man ran into the home and barricaded himself from police, Holt added. Other people in the residence were able to leave safely.
The man was believed to be armed and was threatening to harm himself and others, Holt said.
Police set up a containment around the residence and worked on obtaining a search warrant to enter. Holt said a SWAT team was on standby.
