UTAH LAKE, Utah, July 26, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah County Health Department has reopened Lincoln Marina at Utah Lake after two consecutive weeks of test results showed cyanobacteria cell-count concentrations had dropped below the threshold for a danger advisory.
The marina has been placed under a warning advisory, however, as sample results continue to exceed the recreation health-based threshold for primary contact with water, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality said in a news release Thursday.
Utah DEQ Health Advisory Guidance recommends two consecutive weeks of sampling data to downgrade a harmful algal bloom (HAB) health advisory on a waterbody.
The Health Department has replaced the closed/danger signs with warning signs at Lincoln Marina.
The DEQ advises visitors visiting the Marina:
- Do not swim or water ski
- Do not ingest the water
- Keep pets and livestock away
- Clean fish well and discard guts
- Avoid areas of scum when boating
A news release from the Utah DEQ June 25 said that people and their pets were warned to stay out of Lincoln Marina, as well as Utah Lake’s Provo Bay, Sandy Beach and the Utah Lake State Park because of the potentially harmful algal bloom.
UCHD posted warning signs at Lincoln Marina, Sandy Beach and Utah Lake State Park to warn people about recreating in the Bay due to the presence of potentially harmful algal blooms. The Marina was then closed on June 29.
