Utah County: Elk Ridge, Woodland Hills evacuations to be lifted Saturday

The visible heavier smoke is from pockets of timber, deep inside the fire perimeter. "Aircraft are working on putting out any interior hot spots, and crews on the ground are mopping up the perimeter. One step closer to containment on this portion of the fire, which means one step closer to lifting evacuations in this area. We're gaining ground on the #BaldMountainFire," Utah Fire Info said. UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 22, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — At 9 a.m. Saturday, evacuation orders will be lifted for Elk Ridge and Woodland Hills cities, according to a news release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

As the evacuation orders are lifted, residents will be allowed to return to their homes, and the cities will be on pre-evacuation status until otherwise notified.

“Citizens are encouraged to contact their respective cities or visit their city social media and city websites for information regarding any restrictions on activities during pre-evacuation status,” the news release says.

Everyone is asked to be as orderly and patient as possible as they return to their homes, as a lot of traffic is expected, and the process of getting back to the cities will likely take several hours.

“All citizens are advised that the forest service closures surrounding Elk Ridge and Woodland Hills are still in effect and will be enforced. Additionally, there will still be fire personnel and equipment working within the cities. They may have need to enter onto private properties as they perform fire protection related services,” the news release concludes.

According to Utah Fire Info on Facebook, crews made significant progress on the Pole Creek Fire for the second day in a row.

The Pole Creek Fire is now at 99,077 acres and is 33 percent contained.

“Operations and agency administrators flew the southeast corner of the fire near Dry Creek Trail, looking for opportunities to take more direct action on the fire in a spot that has been challenging firefighters,” the Facebook post states.

On Saturday morning, the fire may become active earlier because overnight humidity recovery is expected to be poor.

Near Red Flag Warning conditions are anticipated for Saturday, with southwest winds at 10-15 mph and gusts to 30 mph, Utah Fire Info said. Sunday could bring stronger winds, with gusts up to 40 mph.
