SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 13, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food will delay the announcement of the applicants to be awarded medical cannabis growing licences.
In a statement issued Saturday, the agency said whose to be awarded the highly coveted licences will be announced at the end of the month rather than on the previously established deadline of July 15, which is Monday.
“The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food and its medical cannabis selection committee are taking very seriously the responsibility of awarding grow licenses,” the statement says.
“With the record-breaking number of 81 applications, each response averaging anywhere between 50-300 pages, and the time needed to thoughtfully evaluate each proposal, we will be announcing the awarding at the end of the month.
“We are laser-focused on carefully reviewing each proposal while still ensuring Utahns will have a high-quality product available within the timeline set by the Legislature.”
The legislation passed requires that medical cannabis products be available by 2020. That legislation — which replaced the voter-approved Proposition 2 — limits growing licences to 10.
