SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 28, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City police are investigating a downtown shooting incident involving one of their officers.
A statement provided to Gephardt Daily by the SLCPD PR Unit, said patrol officers responded to the area of 280 East 400 South around 9 p.m. Wednesday “following reports of an intoxicated male whose dog may have attacked someone.”
According to the SLCPD statement, “The situation escalated when the dog charged an officer shortly after law enforcement arrived on the scene.
“In response to the threat, one officer fired a single round. However, the dog was not injured in the incident, and there were no reports of any other injuries,” police said.
A bystander who claimed to witness the event told Gephardt Daily, on scene, that the dog belonged to a homeless man, and called the incident “traumatic.”
SLCPD confirmed the case is under investigation, but said “additional details were not available at this time.”
