TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, Nov. 30, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 23-year-old man was ejected from his burning car after he hit a metal power pole and two businesses early Saturday morning.
Taylorsville police were dispatched to the scene, near 3900 West and 5400 South, at 1:17 a.m.
“The vehicle was eastbound,” Sgt. Carver, Taylorsville City Police, told Gephardt Daily.
“We believe the driver over corrected when the street basically shifts north a little bit, and went over the concrete median, into a power pole, then into the business sign that was out front, and then struck the McDonald’s located At 3900 West, 5400 South.
“The vehicle basically broke apart, caught fire, and the driver was Life Flighted, severely burned, to, I believe, the U of U Burn Unit.”
The McDonald’s was damaged by the crash to the doorway, Carver said. A Take 5 Oil Change location was also damaged. Parts of the car were scattered along the roadway.
“For him to do the level of damage he did to the metal power pole and then continue, and for the car for that sequence of events to occur, speed was definitely a factor,” Carver said, adding that the man was ejected from the vehicle when he hit the McDonald’s.
No power outages resulted from the power pole collision, Carver said.
Asked about the make of the vehicle, Carver said investigators didn’t know.
“As of right now, we actually don’t. Because of the level of damage due to the fire and the accident, we actually are not able to identify the vehicle at this point.”
Gephardt Daily will share more information as details are released.
