ROY, Utah, Dec. 10, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A man walking his dog Tuesday afternoon at Roy’s West Park who fatally shot an aggressive, unleashed dog will not face charges, Roy City Police say.

Officers were dispatched to the park at 12:41 p.m. on a report of gunfire involving animals, a RCPD statement says.

“According to the initial reports, a male individual was walking his dog when two other dogs approached him that were not secured by the owner,” the news release says.

“The male reportedly warned the owner of the approaching dog to secure their animals. Despite this, one of the dogs attacked the male’s dog. In response, the male discharged a concealed firearm, firing one shot that struck the attacking dog.

“Tragically, the injuries sustained by the dog were fatal.”

Police thoroughly investigated the incident, the release says.

“The case was reviewed by the Roy City Prosecutor’s Office and it was determined that no charges would be filed in connection with the incident.”
