KEARNS, Utah, June 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a man who was shot in the midsection after he picked up a man in his car in Kearns.

The victim, who was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in very critical condition, has been identified as 23-year-old Devin Stanfill.

A woman who saw the victim on the road, by his white car, called officials to the scene, near 5887 Copper City Drive, at about noon, said Sgt. Melody Gray, Unified Police Department.

Before Stanfill went to be prepped for surgery, he was able to tell police he was shot by a white man, who had blue eyes, was bald, and went by the name Ty.

Gray said there was also a domestic incident in Taylorsville earlier involving Stanfill, but it appears to have been unrelated.

As of 2 p.m., police had completed their canine-assisted search of the neighborhood, and continued their investigation under the assumption that the suspect could have escaped the area.

The scene is between Thomas W. Bacchus Elementary and Thomas Jefferson Junior High School, but a Granite School District spokesman confirmed early in the investigation that no classes are in session.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on the scene, and will provide information as it becomes available.
