IRON COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 21, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The state’s newest wildfire expanded by several hundred acres in a few hours Wednesday evening.
In announcing the Iron Peak Fire as a new start at 4:25 p.m., Utah Fire Info estimated the blaze at 75 acres, noting it is being driven by the wind.
In the Cottonwood Mountain area, a mile north of Little Creek Road, it was threatening 3-5 structures, with the cause under investigation.
“Air resources are on scene.”
Two hours later, sharing an update from the U.S. Forest Service, Utah Fire Info reported the Iron Peak Fire on the Dixie National Forest near Paragonah, north of Cedar City, was now estimated at 400 acres.
“Firefighters are on scene, but there is minimal vehicle access, so fire officials are using aviation for now. Crews have been ordered.”
