JUAB COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 14, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The acreage burned in the Pole Creek Fire has grown from 20,000 to 54,000 in less that 24 hours. And the blaze has begun to merge with the nearby Bald Mountain Fire, which would bring the total acreage of the wildfire to 68,500.
Areas under mandatory evacuation include Woodland Hills, Elk Ridge, and Covered Bridge in Spanish Fork Canyon. Sites set up for evacuees to receive help include Salem Hills High School for humans, and the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds for horses.
The Pole Creek Fire started Sept. 6 in the Mt. Nebo Loop area, and has been found to be caused by lightning.
Due to high winds, air resources are unable to fly Thursday, according to a tweet from Utah Fire Info.
