ROY, Utah, July 26, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — An Ogden City official was among the four people killed Wednesday when the single-engine plane they were in crashed onto the median of Interstate 15.

The Department of Public Safety has identified the victims as two married couples:

• Layne Clarke, 48, the pilot, and Diana Clarke, 45, of Taylor, and

• Perry Huffaker, 45, and Sarah Huffaker, 42, of West Haven. Perry Huffaker was Ogden City’s Parks Director.

At about 12:40 p.m., the plane went down in the median of I-15, in Roy near the Riverdale Road exit. According to reports, the aircraft and its four passengers had just left Ogden-Hinckley Airport, which is used primarily by small airplanes.

The plane was reduced to charred, twisted wreckage. No one on the ground was injured, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce told Gephardt Daily.

“Our condolences to both families,” said a post from the Utah Department of Public Safety.

Ogden Trails Network also posted a message on Facebook, saying, “Today, with heavy hearts, we mourn the sudden loss of fellow board member, colleague and friend, Perry Huffaker and his wife Sarah. Perry had an enormous impact on the Ogden Trails and his contributions to our city are immeasurable. Our thoughts and prayers are with their loved ones.”

A GoFundMe account has been set up on behalf of the Huffakers’ children.
