NEW HARMONY, Utah, Nov. 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A person was killed Saturday night in the town of New Harmony, the result of an apparent explosion, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The WCSO received a report of a traumatic injury on the 400 block of Harmony Drive at about 8 p.m., the news release states.

Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies and medical personnel found a deceased person, whom they are currently identifying as a 25-year-old man.

“The initial information provided by investigators on scene was the suspect possibly died as a result of an explosion which occurred in a garage of the residence,” the news release says.

Members of the bomb squad joined detectives from Washington County detectives in an effort to identify the cause of the blast.

Occupants of the adjacent residence were evacuated as a precaution “until the scene is deemed safe,” the WCSO news release says.

The investigation is expected to continue into the night.
