SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 31, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — New details have been released after a stabbing Sunday morning that left two men in critical condition and one of them eviscerated.

Salt Lake City police were called at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and responded to the scene of the knife attack outside a bar called Art’s Place, near 76 S. 900 West.

“Upon arrival, victim 1 was located with a stab wound in his back and had lost a large amount of blood,” a probable cause statement from Salt Lake County says.

“Victim 2 had their stomach cut upon (sic) and their intestines were hanging out. A blood trail from where the fight had occurred leading to where each victim was located linked the two victims together.”

SLCPD’s Lt. Scott Smalley told Gephardt Daily the stabbings took place after an altercation inside Art’s Place. As the argument spilled into the parking lot, it appeared patrons and others began to trade punches.

Witnesses identified a man speeding from the scene, and police were able to trace him to West Valley Apartment complex near 2500 S. Redwood Rd.

Police found the suspect’s car and in a matter of minutes arrested Dusty James, 31, inside his home. Investigators say they found bloody clothing and the weapon believed to have been used in the attacks inside James’ car.

James has been booked into jail on two counts of attempted murder and one count of parole violation.

Both men were rushed to area hospitals — one to IMC, the other to U. Med Center – where they underwent emergency surgery. The victims were reported to be in critical but stable condition after surgery. Police have yet to release their names.
