Draper Police: Car strikes, seriously injures child in suspected ‘intentional act’

DRAPER, Utah, May 31, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police in Draper are investigating after a child was struck by a driver in what evidence suggests “may have been an intentional act.”

The Draper Police Department released a statement, saying the incident happened at about 8:26 a.m. Friday. The 11-year-old girl was on an electric scooter in the street close to 15051 S. Winged Bluff Lane, described as a residential neighborhood, when she was struck.

“The child, who was riding a small electric scooter, was heading south when a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, traveling north, turned into the child on the scooter,” the Draper Police statement says.

“The initial investigation suggests this may have been an intentional act. The investigation is ongoing.

“The child was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

The male driver of the Jetta was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The statement said more information will be released later on Friday. Gephardt Daily will provide more information as it becomes available.
