OGDEN, Utah, Nov. 9, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was fatally shot Friday night when police say he turned on officers and brandished a weapon.

Police received word of a man behaving violently inside the Walmart at 1959 Wall Ave., Ogden Police officials said.

The suspect, who was in a vehicle, was stopped by an officer in the parking lot of the store, but as the officer attempted to communicate with him, the suspect sped off and crashed the vehicle.

He then ran from the crash scene, with officers in pursuit.

That’s when the man “turned aggressively towards the officers with a weapon,” police said.

The officers attempted to use intermediate force to gain control of the situation and subdue the suspect, but their effort was not successful, and two of the officers fired their guns, fatally wounding the man.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Officials have not yet identified the deceased suspect, but said he is a white man believed to be in his late 30s.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting as required by protocol.
