CLINTON, Utah, Nov. 22, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Amber Alert for baby Audrey Westfall and her mother, Taylor Webb, has been lifted, Clinton Police Department said Friday evening in a news release.
“A careful and thorough investigation has been completed and that information has been provided to the Davis County Attorney’s Office,” the news release said. “After careful review the Davis County Attorney’s Office is declining to file criminal charges in this matter. The local District Attorney in Stanislaus County California has also tentatively declined to file charges.”
Clinton PD said the guardianship order is understood to still be in place in California and “additional proceedings are continuing, during which time Audrey will remain listed NCIC.” NCIC is the National Crime Information Center.
Clinton PD thanked the agencies in Utah and California that assisted with the investigation, as well as the public and the media.
The Amber Alert was issued Wednesday night after the baby was taken by her mother, Taylor Webb, from the Clinton home of Webb’s mother, who had temporary legal guardianship of the infant.
Local news reports have stated that guardianship was awarded to the grandmother because Webb went into a temporary coma after delivering Audrey. Public comments on news websites in some cases have supported Audrey’s mother and her actions in recovering her baby.
On Friday morning, Lt. Shawn Stoker, with the Clinton PD, told reporters, “I want to make sure we clarify, this investigation remains about Audrey.”
“In this case, our entire priority has been locating, checking to make sure that the welfare and the safety of this child, first and foremost, make sure the child is OK,” Stoker said.
He confirmed he was working with California Child Protective Services as part of the investigation.
Webb had an attorney contact Clinton Police when she learned that she and her baby were the subjects of an Amber Alert. The attorney gave assurances that the infant is in good condition.
Stoker, however, wanted an official entity, such as someone in law enforcement or Child Protective Services in California and/or Utah, to actually see baby Audrey to verify that she is, indeed, safe.
That verification was received by the Davis County Attorney’s Office later Friday.
