Food truck, cafe closed for health hazards in Salt Lake County

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 18, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A food truck selling curry and a Draper cafe offering pancakes and sandwiches as specialties were closed in recent weeks for violations found by the Salt Lake County Health Department.

Most of the violations were in the area of potentially dangerous temperatures and possible sanitation issues. Both can reopen when they resolve issues and pass a new inspection.

The businesses are:

Curry Time, a mobile eatery, was closed in South Jordan on Aug. 11 for these violations:

  • No water in the hand sink
  • Potato-based food stored on a counter at 78 degrees
  • Cooked vegetables stored on the counter at 70 degrees
  • Cooked lamb stored on the counter at 60 degrees
  • Raw meat stored above ready-to-eat foods in the walk-in cooler
  • Equipment stored in the hand sink
  • No certified food-safety manager employed at the establishment
  • Clean equipment stored on the floor
  • Windows not screened

Penny Ann’s Cafe, the location at 280 E. 12300 South, Draper, was closed on Aug. 13 for the following:

  • A walk-in cooler and various reach-in coolers not maintained to hold potentially hazardous foods at or below 41 degrees
  • Cut tomatoes measured at 50 degrees in the make table
  • Corned beef measuring at 49 degrees in the make table
  • Cold cut meats measuring at 48 degrees in the walk-in cooler
  • Employees’ personal beverages not separated from food preparation areas
  • Personal care item stored above clean plates
  • Hand sinks being used for other purposes
  • Unsealed floors in various areas
  • Some floor/wall junctures uncovered or unsealed
