LOS ANGELES, April 14 (UPI) — Actor Alden Ehrenreich has reportedly emerged as the front-runner to portray a young Han Solo in an upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff film.

According to Deadline, sources claim that Ehrenreich is favored to take on the coveted role after impressing filmmakers during a recent audition.

Ehrenreich has been a part of a short list of actors including Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor, that Disney and Lucasfilm have considered.

The Han Solo film, set to arrive in theaters May 25, 2018, will be directed by “The Lego Movie” helmers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and will center around the rogue smuggler during his early days.

Together with the upcoming “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” this Han Solo film is part of Disney’s plan to release “Star Wars” films in between mainline entries in the series such as “Star Wars: Episode VIII.”

Ehrenreich was last seen in director Joel and Ethan Coen‘s Hollywood comedy, “Hail, Caesar!”
