CUPERTINO, Calif., APRIL 6, 2015 (UPI) — Apple employees will get a 50 percent discount on the Apple Watch that will be sold starting April 24.

Pre-orders for the Apple Watch will begin on April 10, and employees will have 90 days from that day to take advantage of the discount. The 50 percent discount only applies to the aluminum sport and stainless steel models, and there will be a $550 discount for the gold edition watches, according to a memo obtained by 9to5Mac. The gold edition watches start at $10,000 and are largely made of 18-karat gold.

This is not the first time Apple has offered such benefits to employees; the first iPhone was available for free for most employees in 2007.

Apple CEO Tim Cook also noted that 1,000 apps were submitted for consideration to be on the Apple Watch in just four days last week.

“Tens of millions of people have seen our keynotes and demonstration videos about the watch, and there’s much more to come,” Cook wrote. “Some of the most innovative developers in the world are working on new experiences designed specifically for Apple Watch.”
