Apple: First-Week App Sales in January Set New Record

Apple - Gephardt Daily

During the first week of January, consumers spent half a billion dollars on apps and in-app purchases from Apple’s App Store, a new company record.

In a statement released Thursday, Apple says New Year’s Day was the single biggest day ever in the history of the App Store.

“This year is off to a tremendous start after a record-breaking year for the App Store and our developer community,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet software and services, in a statement.

The hot start follows a strong 2014 for Apple’s App Store, which saw sales rise 50% and apps generating more than $10 billion in revenue for developers.

The app store gains arrive as Apple gets ready to launch its next gadget, the Apple Watch. The wearable device is reportedly expected to make its debut in March.
