Dell packs a lot of technology into its brand-new Venue 8 7000 tablet, starting with the display. It’s an 8.4-inch OLED screen with 2560×1600 resolution. It’s bright and crisp-looking, and the display goes edge-to-edge.

That display makes it an appealing choice for looking at photos. And that’s another place where Dell is breaking ground.

It’s the first tablet to use the RealSense camera from Intel. That’s a camera that perceives depth, which means you can do some unusual things with it. For example, you can change the focus of your picture from the foreground to the background, making one blurry and placing the other in focus, simply by touching the display.

Dell also claims that at 0.234 inches, or 6mm, the Venue 8 7000 is the thinnest tablet available. Those measurements do make it a touch thinner than Sony’s 8-inch Experia Z3 Compact Tablet.

The Venue 8 7000 runs on Android’s KitKat operating system. It has an Intel Atom processor, 16GB of storage, and an SD card slot. We’ll have one in our lab for testing soon.
