The recall includes the 2008 to 2012 Buick Enclave; 2009 to 2012 Chevrolet Traverse; 2007 to 2012 GMC Acadia; and 2007 to 2010 Saturn Outlook.

GM sent a notice to the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration saying dirt can get into the gas struts on the power rear hatches, causing them to wear down and possibly fall closed when open.

“If the open lift gate unexpectedly falls, it may strike a person, increasing their risk of injury,” a letter from GM to the NHTSA said.

Drivers with affected cars can have the problem fixed at a dealership.
