Nov. 21 (UPI) — Honda is recalling about 175,000 vehicles due to one problem with a door and another with the brakes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday rear latches on 2018 and 2019 Odyssey minivans’ power sliding door could be prevented from fully closing. The defect might lead to the doors opening while the minivan is moving.

Honda has been aware of the problem for 14 months. It initially attempted to correct it with a different lubricant, but seven months earlier it began using a new part in the latching mechanism.

The company agreed that a recall is the only way to solve the problem. About two dozen complaints involving the sliding doors have been reported by the NHTSA. Honda said it’s not aware of any injuries related to the issue.

The recall affects Odyssey models made before April 16, 2018, which is when the repairs began. The automaker will offer customers the option of having the door’s rear latches replaced — or, since available parts are limited until the end of December, having the power sliding features of the doors temporarily disabled.

About 108,000 Odysseys are affected by the recall. A different recall involves about 65,000 Honda and Acura models.

Last week, Honda said it filed paperwork with the NHTSA to address brake issues on the vehicles. The recall involves insufficient coating on rear brake calipers, which could lead to gas pockets reducing braking performance.

That recall involves 2017-2019 Acura MDX; 2017-2019 MDX Sport Hybrid; 2016 and 2018-2019 Honda HR-V; and 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey models. The Automaker said dealers will bleed and restore all brake lines, and that replacement of parts will not be necessary.

A brake supplier informed Honda of the issue, and other automakers — including Audi and Volkswagen, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, General Motors, and Mercedes-Benz — have issued similar recalls.

Honda said the brake recall will start next month.
