Love For The Lonely

Valentine's Day - Gephardt Daily

Love is in the air as Valentine’s Day also known as “Single’s Awareness Day” is fast approaching. But the holiday doesn’t always have to be about you and a significant other. We have love in many other aspects of our lives: family, friends, your pup or kitten, maybe even Netflix. If you don’t have a hot date for this Valentine’s Day, Gephardt Daily has the perfect ideas for you to show life some love.

Random acts of kindness

You’re not the only person who is potentially spending Valentine’s Day alone. Make some homemade valentine’s with a positive message, quote, or image and go to your local grocer, mall, or downtown and hand them out to other people who look like they might be having a rough day or are feeling lonely. Leave some on the local transportation system in an envelope that read, “Open Me.” This could make someone’s day more than you could imagine.

Road trip

Not only is it Valentine’s Day, but it is also President’s Day weekend, which means you most likely have Monday off. Be spontaneous with a few friends and hop in the car and adventure. Even if it’s a few hours a way, take the time to treat yourself and make memories with your favorite people.

 Hike
The weather here in Utah has been absolutely beautiful for the month of February. You might as well soak up the sun while you can and work off a few extra calories before eating that box of chocolates later. Check out http://www.utah.com/hike/ to find some local hikes that are perfect for your athletic abilities.

Scavenger Hunt

Get a large group of friends and meet at the local park. Together think of 10-15 things that are hard to find in your city, jot them down, and head downtown. The first group done gets to pick dinner for the night, last group done has to pay for dinner.

NBA All-Star Weekend

Maybe the NBA is your love of choice. If so, you’re in luck for this Valentine’s Day. On Saturday, February 14th, TNT is broadcasting the All-Star Saturday Night beginning at 8:30 p.m. The events will be: Degree Shooting Stars, Taco Bell Skills Challenge, Foot Locker Three-Point Contest, and the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.

Girls night

Invite your best girl friends over and have a girls’ night. Paint each others nails, make some cookies, crafts, or watch fun movies while eating cookie dough on the couch. Just go as classic as possible; maybe even have a dance party to Aaron Carter and watch the movie ‘Sleepover’ for good times sake.

Volunteer at the humane society

You know, you’re not the only one who is spending the holiday alone. At the Utah Humane Society there are cats, dogs, and even rabbits that are feeling a little lonely. Spend an hour or two playing catch or walking a dog, or simply just cuddling with one of those adorable rabbits or kittens.

Just because you don’t have a Valentine this year doesn’t mean you aren’t loved or shouldn’t share the love. Remember, Gephardt Daily loves you and wishes you a Happy Valentine’s Day.
