SAN FRANCISCO, July 8 (UPI) — A new start-up in San Fransisco wants to provide customers with a monthly marijuana subscription service, delivering the goods straight to their doorstep.

Potbox launched Tuesday, and has adopted the monthly subscription business model like Birchbox and Barkbox.

“We’re big believers that people should know what they’re putting in their body and have a choice,” Potbox cofounder and CEO Austin Heap told Fast Company. “Right now, if you go into a store that sells OG Kush, for example, you really have no idea what that is. With Potbox, we watch over the entire process to make sure that our high standards are met.”

Currently, Potbox is only serving the Los Angeles and San Fransisco areas with their high-quality, sustainably grown cannabis and requires a medical marijuana card from each subscriber.

If the business model succeeds, the company wants to expand to the states that allow the recreational use of marijuana: Colorado, Oregon, Washington and the District of Columbia.

“Potbox is a pretty typical Silicon Valley tech startup,” Heap said. “We just happen to be focused on the cannabis industry.

Each PotBox includes a total of 10 grams of cannabis, two jars measured with 4 grams of weed in each and two prerolled joints. The monthly service will run for $149 a box.
