Utah Ski Resorts Are Busy Despite Low Snow Totals
SALT LAKE CITY, March 13, 2015 (Gephardt Daily)- We have had an unseasonably warm winter this year but Utah ski resorts are reporting they have had a busy season. There was a big storm the second week of January but that was nearly the only snow for the entire month, so spring conditions have prevailed since the late January warm up. February snowfall was barely a third of normal.
But resorts are reporting that they have had a busy season and in fact, people are thronging to them because of the sunshine. Brian Brown, communications manager for Snowbird, said most weekends there is nowhere to park at the resort and they are encouraging people to take UTA or carpool. “It’s sunny, it’s a ton of fun to come up, the weekend crowds are good and we are not seeing any major slow down,” he said. Snowbird will be closing either the beginning or middle of May.
Andy Miller, communications manager for for Park City Mountain Resort, said visitation has been terrific at the resort this season. “While Utah locals love powder days, our destination guests largely prefer bluebird sunny days with groomed snow,” he said. “With 103 runs open, and 47 of them groomed just last night, we’re doing very well in terms of open terrain.” Closing day is scheduled for April 19.
Across the board, resorts have posted on Skiutah.com that the conditions are wonderful at the moment. Beaver Mountain will be having a party on Monday, March 16 to celebrate 75 years. Day passes will be sold for only $7.50 at the Mountain Ticket Office only. Tickets are good for that day only.
