Suzy’s Bogguss Journey
After making a choice to leave the music industry to raise her son and be a wife 20 years ago, Suzy Bogguss is back to singing the tunes that make her heart sing.
Her latest work is a tribute to a country music legend and friend of her Suzy’s, Merle Haggard. Haggard wrote all of the songs on Bogguss’ newest album titled “Lucky.” It’s the same kind of classic country music that Bogguss loved as a child.

Bogguss found her love for country music as a child while driving in a car filled with eight-tracks. She learned her love of singing at the age of five when she joined the church choir and began singing in school productions. With her mother’s musical background and her siblings playing the drums, Bogguss saved up her baby-sitting fund as a teenager to purchase her first 12-string guitar.
The Grammy nominated country music artist first began her career in 1985 when she moved to Nashville to work on demos. Throughout that process she was offered the opportunity to audition for none other than the country music superstar, Dolly Parton. Parton was preparing to take over the Silver Dollar City theme park (later renamed Dollywood.)
Capitol Record’s talent scouts later discovered Bogguss while she was performing at the Dollywood theme park. One of her recordings from a performance landed in the hands of a label executive and she was signed just three years later. Then after 10 albums, Bogguss stepped away to have a family life and raise her son, Ben.
Bogguss told Leesburgtoday.com that she is grateful for her career with Capitol Records, which opened new doors and created lifelong relationships, but now is journeying out on her own as an independent artist.
