PASCO, Wash., April 25, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah is among the states to receive shipments of frozen vegetables from a Washington company now voluntarily recalling products due to danger of listeria contamination.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced over the weekend that the organism was found in some samples of peas and of white sweet cut corn.
The company, CRF Frozen foods, is based in Pasco, Washington. The frozen vegetables are marketed under the brands names True Goodness, Organic By Nature, Schwan’s, and Wellsley Farm Organics.
As of Monday, no cases of illness had been reported by consumers.
Besides Utah, states involved in the recall include Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Maine, Massachusetts Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
In Canada, the vegetables were sent to Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Listeria can cause fatal infections in young children, elderly people or those with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women may suffer a stillbirth from an infection.
In healthy adults, symptoms can include high fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
People who have purchased the products can discard them or take them back to the store for a refund.
