HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Dec. 28, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has crossed the $1 billion line internationally faster than any movie in history.
The continuation to the “Star Wars” saga beat out the previous record held by “Jurassic World” by just one day.
Box Office Mojo is reporting the film is the top movie domestically for the second week in a row, bringing in an additional $153.5 million.
Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell’s comedy “Daddy’s Home” came in at the number two slot with a weekend total $38.8 million for its first weekend.
Debuting in third place was “Joy,” starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, with $17.5 million.
“Sisters” premiered in fourth place, taking in $13.8 million. The Tina Fey and Amy Poehler comedy has upped its advertising for the film, hoping to capture a larger audience in its second week.
The animated film, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” dropped to the number five spot with $12.7 million. The film has earned $39.3 million in its two weeks of release.
