LOS ANGELES – December 28, 2015 — (UPI) — The X-Files is gearing up for its series revival on Jan. 24.

The Fox series released a 21-minute preview featuring David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and series creator Chris Carter ahead of the sci-fi drama’s return.

The preview introduces Duchovny and Anderson’s characters, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, to new viewers and gives existing fans a behind-the-scenes look at what’s to come.

“Chris knows the material in his bones,” Duchovny said. “He has a real clear vision of this world … We want to satisfy the mythology of it. There’s going to be standalones, and of those standalones there’s going to be one that’s funnier than the others.”

“There’s a particular kind of enthusiasm that people have right now for this coming back,” Anderson added. “I knew that there was a big interest from the fans to see more monster stuff, but also we have a big fandom based around the mythology.”

Writer and executive producer Glen Morgan revealed the first and sixth episodes will be mythology episodes, with standalone episodes in between. Writer and producer Darin Morgan added that the revival will see Mulder and Scully confront their “age” and “life choices.”

The X-Files had a nine-season run from 1993 to 2002, and will return for a six-episode limited series revival Jan. 24, 2016. The sci-fi drama follows Mulder and Scully as they investigate unsolved and unexplained cases involving paranormal phenomena.
