A$AP Rocky Clarifies Harsh Lyrics Written About Rita Ora
LONDON, May 28 (UPI) — After facing backlash over controversial lyrics targeting artist Rita Ora, A$AP Rocky spoke with BBC Radio’s Annie Mac to clarify his message.
In his song “Better Things,” Rocky does more than kiss and tell, calling out the British singer for having a “big mouth,” hinting at a possible affair between the two while he was in another relationship.
The rapper told Mac on air Wednesday that the harsh lyrics toward Ora stem from something she did in the past that got him “in a lot of trouble.”
“I just want to clarify, this isn’t me saying: People don’t go listen to Rita Ora, or she’s an ugly person, or nothing,” he said. “I’m not saying she’s a terrible person, I’m just saying that when I was in a relationship and I did things with her that I wasn’t supposed to do, she had a big mouth.”
In “Bette Things,” Rocky raps: “Next time I see her might curse the [expletive] out/ Kicked the [expletive] out once ’cause she [expletive] out.”
Rocky also said that the song is fairly old, but it was good enough to include on his newly released record, At.Long.Last.A$AP.
He shared support for Ora after the initial comments to Mac, saying: “I want to say thank you to the U.K. for providing me with such great synergy…and another thing to all of Rita Ora’s fans and to Rita Ora herself — keep going, you’re still beautiful baby girl. Just keep your mouth shut and I’ll do the same.”
