NEW YORK, April 13 (UPI) — After Glamour magazine branded the actress as “plus-sized” in its latest issue, Amy Schumer is speaking out against the term, saying “we don’t need” the label.
During her appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Tuesday night, Schumer briefly discussed the matter, shrugging off “plus-size” as an arbitrary term.
“I love Glamour magazine. Honestly, they’ve been so nice to me,” the Trainwreck actress began. “They’ve done so many great things for women, but what I learned is that people really don’t like being classified by ‘plus-size.’ We don’t need these labels. We don’t need ’em. It should just say what size you are.”
Schumer’s comments were accepted with applause by the studio audience, which prompted the actress to resort to physical comedy to lighten the mood. She stuck her legs out straight in her chair and proceeded to lay back to deliver her final statement on the matter.
“Why,” Schumer asked no one in particular while committing to her final slump in the chair.
Last week, the comedian blasted Glamour magazine for featuring her in its plus-size issue. “I think there’s nothing wrong with being plus-size,” she began in a post on social media.
“Beautiful healthy women. Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8. @glamourmag put me in their plus-size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn’t feel right to me.”
