SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 3, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — With an 89 percent critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 98 percent “Want to See” audience rating, “Hacksaw Ridge” looks promising to open at the box office in second place this weekend, just behind “Doctor Strange.”
The World War II film tells the true story of Desmond Doss, an American Army medic who served during the Battle of Okinawa. The soldier refused to carry a weapon or kill anyone in battle. Doss ultimately became the first conscientious objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor.
The film stars Andrew Garfield as Doss. Although born in Los Angeles, Garfield moved to the United Kingdom when he was 2 with his parents and older brother. The actor is best known from his film role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”
Co-starring with Garfield is Teresa Palmer — whose breakout role was the 2010 Disney film “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” — as Doss’ wife, Dorothy. Palmer, a native Australian, has also been seen in “Take Me Home Tonight,” “I Am Number Four,” “Warm Bodies” and Nicolas Sparks’ “The Choice.”

Also in the cast are Vince Vaughn, Luke Bracey, Hugo Weaving, Sam Worthington and Rachel Griffiths.
