B.B. King’s Daughters Say He Was Poisoned
LAS VEGAS, May 25 (UPI) — Two of B.B. King’s daughters allege the late blues legend was poisoned by his closest aides.
In documents obtained by US Weekly, Karen Williams and Patty King accuse LaVerne Toney, King’s manager, and Myron Johnson, King’s personal assistant, of poisoning their father.
“I witnessed foreign substances and/or medication that were administered locked and hidden by Ms. Toney, leading me to believe she was administering medications or poisons into Mr. King’s body due to the non-transparency of her administration of said foreign objects, poisons, or medications,” the documents read.
King was 89 when he died at his home in Nevada last Thursday.
King’s attorney, Brent Bryson, said the musician died in his sleep.
Larissa Drohobyczer, who represents King’s daughters and the rest of his family, told The Wrap that the family believes Toney is responsible for King’s death.
“[The children] said he was poisoned or his cause of his death was attributed to LaVerne Toney’s lack of attention to his medical care,” Drohobyczer said.
Drohobyczer said the family has provided enough evidence to prompt an investigation.
King had 11 surviving biological and adoptive children when he died.
Just before his death, King’s family tried unsuccessfully to have a court revoke Toney’s power of attorney over King’s estate. They claimed that Toney was stealing money from the musician’s bank accounts.
King’s attorney said at the time that their allegations were “laughable.”
“It’s all about money,” Bryson said. “Mr. King is no longer out able to tour at this particular time so there’s no money coming in. The only way they can get money now is by filing a frivolous type of action.”
