SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 15 (UPI) — Ben Affleck wasn’t fazed by Jennifer Garner‘s revealing Vanity Fair interview.
The 43-year-old actor responded to Garner’s tell-all cover story in an interview with the New York Times. Affleck and Garner split in June after 10 years of marriage, which the actress candidly discussed in the March issue of Vanity Fair.
“Jen’s great,” Affleck said of his estranged wife. “She’s a great person. We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.”
“She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with,” he explained. “So she could say, ‘Look, I already talked about it — I don’t want to do it again.’ It’s fine. She’s allowed to talk about it.”
Garner described Affleck as the “love of [her] life,” but also painted him as an often-absent husband who seemed larger than life. She told the magazine she married the person, not “the big fat movie star,” but admitted the actor is “just a complicated guy.”
“He’s the most brilliant person in the room, the most charismatic, the most generous,” she said. “I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”
“We still have to help each other get through this,” she added. “He’s still the only person who really knows the truth about things. And I’m still the only person that knows some of his truths.”
Affleck and Garner, who was previously wed to Scott Foley from 2000 to 2004, share 10-year-old Violet, 7-year-old Seraphina and 4-year-old Samuel. The actor will next star in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” while Garner is slated for “Miracles from Heaven.”
