LONDON, Aug. 19 (UPI) — With her film career on the rise, model Cara Delevingne revealed Sunday that she is leaving the world of modeling behind.

Speaking to London’s The Times (via People), Delevingne opened up about how modeling caused her a great deal of anxiety and how she felt forced into doing uncomfortable, “disgusting” poses for photo shoots.

“Modeling just made me feel a bit hollow after a while,” Delevingne told the magazine. “It didn’t make me grow at all as a human being. And I kind of forgot how young I was…I felt so old.”

Delevingne started modeling in 2011, and has gone on to become one of the most recognizable faces in fashion around the world. A career that was both stressful and unhealthy for the 23-year-old.

The stress she explained caused her to develop severe psoriasis, a chronic, visible skin condition which made matters worse.

“I was, like, fight and flight for months. Just constantly on edge,” the British model said. “It is a mental thing as well because if you hate yourself and your body and the way you look, it just gets worse and worse.”

Delevingne also spoke out against the various sexual poses she was asked to do over the years even as a teen.

“I am a bit of a feminist and it makes me feel sick,” she said of the poses. “it’s horrible and it’s disgusting. [We’re talking about] young girls. You start when you are really young and you do, you get subjected to…not great stuff.”

Now done with modeling, Delevingne’s film career is just getting started after starring inPaper Towns back in July and will next be seen Oct. 9 for Pan. Still, Delevingne acknowledges that modeling prepared her for the world of Hollywood.

“I am a lot harder than I was and I feel like all of that modeling, life, rejection, everything, was preparation for this, and now that I am doing this I am the happiest person in the whole world.”
